God Desire to Use Our Words

use you

As follower of Christ, we are told that God desires to use what we say to help and encourage those who are able and willing to hear. In other words, He would like to fill us with His grace and love, and use our speech to encourage and assist others when there is an occasion or need. But before we can help someone else, we must look within our own hearts. Remember Jesus said, we must deal with the beam in our own eye, before we can help our neighbor with the speck in his. The Lord wants us to resist “trash talk,” which includes lying, gossip, and any unconstructive, pessimistic, haughty, judgmental, harmful words that tear down rather than build up. Sadly, many Christians to get pulled into and participate in this type of talk, especially when it is done under the guise of being ‘spiritually holier than thou’, or self-righteous!

What is really in a man’s heart is going to come out of his mouth during times of pressure or trouble. It is important that we have eyes to see what is in our own heart, and not put the blame on others. When we blame others for our misbehavior- we will trip and get caught up in the negative, and Christ wants to set us free from that. Recognizing, we are in need pushes us in the right direction, not towards self- condemnation; but towards humility- towards our Lord- towards pouring the negative out of our hearts to Him through prayer. This makes room for the Holy Spirit to fill us, and give us the heart of our Lord, through His healing touch!

Then, as we learn to be quiet and keep our mouths shut when “trash talk” is ruling the atmosphere, we will discover that we are less likely to be pulled in. When we speak the truth in love to those who are willing to listen, the Lord will use our words to bless, give grace, and help others move forward spiritually.

“Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that is may be a blessing and give grace [God’s favor] to those who hear it”(Ephesians 4:29).
