Inspiration Teaching Words of Life Healing & Joy

Jesus’ Yoke

Jesus told those who followed him to, “take my yoke upon you and learn of me”. In Bible times, a yoke was a wooden frame by which two oxen were joined at the neck in order to have more strength and work together. Jesus declared that those who were burdened should take His yoke upon them, meaning He desires to come close to help carry the burdens that weigh us down.

As we pray, think, and feel through the issues that disturb us, and look to Jesus for help in carrying our burdens, we will discover His true heart. The heart of God is revealed through our Lord Jesus, and is gentle and humble, not harsh or arrogant. God’s grace is amazing, and his mercy endures towards us, as he works his life into our lives. He has the ability to take burdens that seem so harsh and pressing and turn them into valuable, useful, tools that produce spiritual transformation that will endure into eternity. It is always God’s will for us to arrive at a peaceful place in our spirit, to find relief, refreshment, and quiet- no matter what the circumstances may be. He has the desire and ability to lighten any burden we carry. Jesus said, “So everyone, come to me! Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Then come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis. Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, and easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me”. Today, why not let Him help you carry the burden that weighs you down? He will graciously support, help, and strengthen you, as you learn to walk forward, in His abiding grace, mercy, love and peace.

“Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle [meek] and humble [lowly] in heart, and you will find rest [relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet] for your souls. For My yoke is wholesome [useful, good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant], and My burden is light and easy to be borne” (Matthew 11:29-30).
