Inspiration Teaching Words of Life

Open Hands/Open Heart

open hand open heart

“Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully” (1Peter5:7)

In wisdom and love God calls us to open our hearts and cast our anxieties, worries, and concerns onto Him. The dictionary states that the word casting is a verb meaning “to throw something away from yourself.” Yet sometimes we feel stuck in our worries, because such powerful emotions are attached to them; such as fear, dread, frustration, anger, and hurt which trap us as we struggle to open our hearts and cast the overwhelming confusion onto Jesus. But in spite of the entire negative emotional and spiritual clamor, Jesus’ overcoming love towards us longs to help us release and cast our anxious worry onto Him. While letting go makes room in our hearts and minds for the Holy Spirit to free us up to walk in the freedom of faith and hope- Christ gently and sweetly calls us to hand over our anxieties, worries, and concerns to Him. Through my experience over the years, the Lord has taught me how to cast my care on Him. In the beginning, the Spirit instructed me to literally open my physical hands while I poured out my hearts concerns and negative emotions to God in prayer. Our open hands are a picture of our open hearts, which helps us lean, rely, trust, and believe by giving us a visual focal point as we talk to God. Literally opening our hands as we pray symbolically represents the heart that is open to God for help and care. Many times the Spirit speaks through simple pictures to help us move forward spiritually. Literally opening our hands as we pray symbolically represents the heart that is open to God for His help, care, healing and love. Open hands…Open heart…Letting go…..Giving God our anxieties, worries, and concerns; because He cares for us affectionately and cares about us watchfully!
