Inspiration Teaching Words of Life

Shelter Me, Oh Lord!

When Jesus left the upper room with his disciples, he went to the Mount of Olives, his place of secret prayer. There he told the apostles, “Keep praying for strength to be prepared for the severe test of your faith that is about to come.” In the garden of Gethsemane, the Lord cautioned His disciples about the tempter’s power, and counseled with word and example how to overcome the Enemy’s persuasion. Jesus used the weapon of ‘pouring out your hearts prayer’ onto the Father, which enabled Him to overcome the power of His flesh and Satan, while continuing to step forward into the perfect plan of God. Even so, because of the disciples’ sorrow, weariness and fear-they slept both physically and spiritually. They did not have the strength to endure this great temptation, but Jesus called for an angel to strengthen him, and He prayed even more passionately, like one being sacrificed, until he was in such intense agony of spirit that his sweat became drops of blood, dripping onto the ground. He wrestled in prayer and prevailed over the Enemy!

What do we do when diabolical fear assaults our heart and mind, while at the same time; reasoning brings no relief from the panic this tormenting spiritual, negative power seems to hold over us? When terror feels bigger than our faith, and the struggle of pain feels larger than our trust in God- we must choose to run into the sheltering arms of our powerful, loving Lord Jesus Christ. When Satan uses this methodology on God’s lovers- it is designed to keep us from fulfilling God’s will in our lives, and discovering our God given destiny.  When we find ourselves caught up in fear and terror sent from our spiritual enemy, we must experientially learn the power of prayer, as we cry out -SHELTER ME, OH LORD- SHELTER ME, OH LORD-SHELTER ME, OH LORD! The power of this prayer will push Satan back, and God’s powerful love, favor, and truth will become our protection and defense.  It is God’s will that our faith triumphs over the adversary, through crying out prayer, in the loving and powerful name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  So let us watch and pray, as we learn how to overcome our weakness of the flesh, and the enemy of our soul. Let’s embrace Christ’s overcoming power, and the promises of the Word of God….  The Spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak…….. Shelter me, oh Lord, is our delivering prayer….. and when I am feeble and overwhelmed by life, guide me into your glory where I am safe and sheltered. “Shelter me oh Lord, for you have been a shelter and a refuge for me, a strong tower against the adversary”. Psalm 61:3
