When Relationships Disappoint You

We all long to be accepted and unconditionally loved by our family and friends. But we are often disappointed when we realize that our relationships are less than perfect. Feeling disappointed with one another is an inevitable part of human relationships. When someone disappoints us, we must recognize as false the notion that any person-even a wonderful person- can meet all our needs and desires. Co-dependent relationships are created when we look to people to meet our every need, instead of looking to our creator. We must accept the truth that only through a growing, living relationship with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit can the deep needs of our hearts be healed and filled. As we sense our disappointment with a person, we must talk to God about our feelings and work on gradually letting go of the attached emotional baggage, and choose forgiveness. This allows room for God to give us powerful emotional support and to set us free from our negative emotions.  As He transports and lifts us to a more spiritually satisfying place, we will discover that His love is bigger than all our pain.  Human relationships can be rewarding when both people involved work equally on loving, caring, and giving to one another. Yet even in the best relationships there will be disappointments. When it happens, run to the Lord first and work out your heart- “trust in the Lord with all your heart”. God’s constant, tender love lasts forever! He will not let you down, because His powerful love has the ability to turn our distress into the peace that passes understanding. He will show you if we need to step away from an unhealthy relationship, or He will give you direction of how to develop and grow in a healthy relationship. By Yahweh’s supernatural power you can overcome your disappointments, and discover He is for you, and constantly by your side.

“Out of my distress I called upon the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free and in a large place. It is better trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in princes” (Psalm 118: 5, 8-9).
