Where is Your Focus?

“Let us strip off and throw aside every encumbrance[unnecessary weight] and that sin which so readily [deftly and cleverly] clings to and entangles us, and let us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course of the race that is set before us. Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, who is the Leader and Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also it’s Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection] “(Hebrews 12:1b-2a).

In the book of Hebrews, our earthly faith journey is compared to an athlete running a race. Believers are told to throw aside every unnecessary weight or burden and turn away from the shortcoming (sin) which cleverly clings to and entangles us. We all have personal shortcomings and patterns that attempt to pull us away from keeping our focus on Jesus, and spiritually moving forward in Kingdom.  When we get pulled and entangled into this world’s encumbrances, they interfere and hinder our ability to stay focused and determined to spiritually move forward and yield to the Holy Spirit’s work within us. I tell you the Truth, when our heart gets tangled up in the cares of this world, it will steal our peace! When our focus changes from believing that Jesus, who is our Leader and the Source of our faith will see us through this life and finish what He has begun in each of His children’s lives, as we begin trying to figure out what is going on in our world, without our eyes on Jesus; this sets us up to make worry, fear, frustration, anger, resentment our center and focus, while this negativity effects our world, and gives the Enemy openings to trip us up. That is why it is crucial for us to be still, and work out our burdened heart with Jesus, until we are able to find rest-  throw the negative aside- and allow the Holy Spirit to help us run with patient endurance and steady and active persistence the appointed course before us.  Sometimes when life’s race feels long and hard, it is easy to get tripped up, and fall into judging, complaining, and weariness. Still, it is God’s will to use struggling times, not to destroy us, but to develop us into patient, stable, energetic believers that have enduring faith,  perseverance and determination to keep stepping forward, in spite of weariness or fear. We are told to look away from all that will distract us and look to Jesus, who is our leader, the author and finisher of our faith, and the One who has the grace we need to keep stepping forward. The sacred prayer coming from our struggling hearts is: Lord, keep me stepping toward you, no matter what I’m feeling…..Lord, Keep me stepping forward in the Kingdom of Love outwardly with you….. Increase your Kingdom of Love and peace within my heart…. Use me to bring your Kingdom of Light and Love into my sphere of influence. In Jesus Name Amen! Our God delights in connecting with his children and longs to help each one of us evolve spiritually, as He helps us overcome struggles and experience victory in the daily race that is set before us.
