Matthew 6.14 ~ "for if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you"
Keeping a forgiving heart towards others (and self) is an essential part of living in relationship with God. Life is full of happenings that bruise the heart and soul causing offence and bitterness. God, with His great mercy has forgiven us of all our sins, and He requires that we also bestow mercy on those who hurt us and cause us pain. Unforgiveness leads to resentment and hatred and we cannot be in LOVE if we are harbouring and tending to the embers of bitterness within us. It hurts us. And It hurts God.
Our hearts are for giving. For giving to God, fully. When we forgive we are giving up the spiritual sepsis we cannot carry, and that if we hold on to, makes us sick. We are choosing to relinquish the pain and to reach for peace instead. Giving it up means realising that NO time can be spent festering on the hurt or resenting the person. If we are struggling with stubbornness, we need to ask God to help us break free from it. To ask God to soften our hearts so we can be free of it. God is the ultimate forgiver. He knows what it is to forgive and HOW to do it. Let's pray and ask for His help. Our hearts are forgiving, let's give our hearts to God now.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, please search my heart for any unforgiveness I am holding on to. I don't want to hold on to any of it any more. I desire to let it all go and to give it all to you. If you find any stubborness or resistance in me Lord, please soften it and Help me to give it all up and over to You Lord x and Holy Spirit, I pray, please convict me in any moment I take a sting and take offence. Encourage me to dive into forgiveness immediately. Help me to find and nurture compassion and understanding for the bringer of the pain. Help me to realise they are hurting also. Help me to eagerly choose to be forgiving and through the forgiving bring me into being able to bless whoever the perpetrators are x Give me Your wisdom and discernment Lord to be able to know when i need to forgive, I desire for my heart to truly be for for~giving x help me choose blessings over curses. I need your help with this Lord, as You are forgiveness personified x soften my heart God x make me more like you x in Jesus name x amen
