What are Tithes and Offerings?

A tithe is a tenth of your income or "first fruits" given to God. It was introduced as law in Leviticus 27:30. It is now an act of worship and obedience that shows how committed you are to Him, how thankful you are for His blessings, and how willing you are to share in the responsibility of taking care of others.

We see the principle of tithing both in the old testament and the new testament in various places (look at "Bible Verses on Tithing"). While it does not explicitly mention tithing in the early church the idea and principles are still there.

When it comes to tithing, it's important to remember that the money should go where you grow spiritually. This means giving back to your local church. By supporting your church with your tithe, you are helping to further God's kingdom and blessing others in the process!

Tithing is an important part of how we show our love and commitment to God. It's how we give thanks for all the blessings He has given us, how we support the work that He is doing in our community, and how we open up the door for Him to bless us abundantly.

So if you're looking for information on how to tithe correctly, remember these three tips:

  • Decide how much you want to give

  • Give cheerfully

  • Give back where you receive spiritual food

Offerings, on the other hand, are additional gifts you give to God and His work in the world. Offerings can be any amount or anything that you feel called to give.

Conclusions

Tithing is a great way to show your love and commitment to God. It gives you an opportunity to be generous from the heart and open up the door for Him to bless you abundantly!

When it comes to how much you should tithe, focus on how much you want to give cheerfully and make sure that your local church is receiving your tithes. By following these steps, you will be tithing correctly and honoring God with your finances!

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.

Luke 6:38

Giving tithes and offerings with hope for how God will use it is sowing to the Spirit, and this hopeful giving empowers the Church to collectively sow to the Spirit as it does good.

Galations 6:7-10

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Malachi 3:10:

2 Corinthians 9:6-11

6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written:

“They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
    their righteousness endures forever.”[a]

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
